Parenting with Popsicles
My favourite, fun parenting hack.
I have a deep love of my mini popsicle tray. It’s more than a quick and easy way to make frozen delights, it’s a parenting secret weapon. Please let me tell you all the reasons I love my popsicle tray.
Easy to make! Literally a spoonful of yogurt, a squirt of leftover pouch (because you always have a half-finished one in the fridge) and of course a generous amount of sprinkles and toss in the freezer. I like that they are basically made of regular snack food but just served in a fun way.
They come out so easily! No running under hot water, because sometimes even that is too long to wait.
They give me a minute to catch my breath. Containing the kids at the table for 10 minutes while they eat 1 or 2 mini popsicles has been a real sanity saver on many days.
Sometimes we do “dessert with dinner” and I pass them out at the beginning of the meal. It’s perfect on days when cooperation is low and I don’t have the energy to transition them from playing to the table or I’ve made a nice meal I really want to be able to sit and linger over. If you haven’t tried serving dessert with dinner it’s pretty cool to watch your kids jump from a lick of popsicle to a bite of broccoli.
The empty tray can be a pretty fun toddler toy too! But isn’t that true of basically any kitchen gadget?
